Are you looking for a good book to read? One that will capture your attention and won’t be a total bore? Check out these great authors. Specially written for readers your age, any book by these authors is sure to be a success.

1. Suzanne Collins

Many readers had never heard of Suzanne Collins until Katniss Everdeen’s name was drawn as a contestant in The Hunger Games in 2008.

As the author of the best-selling trilogy The Hunger Games, Collins created a world where war and violence were forced on young adults, and where the government was conspiring against its own citizens. The three-part story follows Katniss as she leads a revolt against the prevailing leadership and restores hope to society.

A compelling story that grabs you from the first page, the books outshine the movies in every way. Even if you’ve seen the movies, the books are well worth the read!

Few people, however, realize that Collins was an award-winning author before Katniss shot her first arrow. Her other series, The Underland Chronicles follows the story of Gregor, a young boy who falls into the dark Underland with his sister and must fulfill his destiny.

2. J. R. R. Tolkein

Another author with larger than life characters, Tolkein is best-known for his beloved stories, Lord of the Rings.

Tolkein created his own world, Middle Earth, and then wrote almost exclusively about the adventures that took place there. In a world filled with hobbits, elves, dwarves, monsters and magic, readers are captivated by his writing and enchanted by the characters.

Tolkein is a master at weaving a tale and his books offer something to everyone: adventure, romance, mystery, and intrigue.

Don’t let the size of the books discourage you; you’ll read every page and find yourself asking for more.

3. James Dashner

Another author who created a less-than-desirable society, Dashner’s Maze Runner series is a non-stop story line that follows the main character, Thomas, from the moment he wakes up in an elevator and knows nothing but his name. He discovers a new reality: he is part of a group of boys that must find their way through a maze, relying only on themselves to escape danger, find the path, and survive.

In addition to the five-part Maze Runner series, Dashner has three other series of books available that will capture your imagination.

4. Rick Riordan

A former middle school teacher, Riordan was writing adult fiction mystery novels with great success (he won several awards) when he started weaving bedtime tales for his son.

He told the story of Percy Jackson, a young boy who discovered at the age of 12 that he was actually the son of a Greek god. His adventures became the basis for the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, a five-book series that pits Percy against Greek gods and monsters. Full of epic tales and wonderful mythology, Riordan’s adventures will have you wishing you could ride into battle with Percy at Olympus.

Riordan’s other writings include several books in the 39 Clues series as well.
